Creative Audiences

Media Innovation Creative Audiences Idea – An app of which the audience becomes the producers TV shows such as ‘Love Island’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ already use this concept, but how do we expand and develop this into something bigger? Success has been raged from consumers being able to vote and share their opinions via an app, especially for free. It gives the consumer the feeling that they are important, that their voice is going to be heard. There is always a sense of disbelief when your favourite character from a TV show gets booted off, but what if there was a way to place power in your own hands and manipulate your favourite show, would you do it? This idea came upon me while having successful encounter with the ‘Love Island’ app. It was fun to engage with the show and feel the ‘new power’ that was almost ‘gifted’ to me. It gave me the ability to change and alter people’s lives all by tapping away and the best thing was that, I didn’t have to move from my couch. Due to the success of this, I believe that there is a gap in the market for this form of new media. The audience it would attract would be young people around the ages of 14 -24. The best way to concur this idea is to place it into an app format. An app is accessible to many young adults due to many of them having access or owning a smartphone. An app has many valuable amenities to it such as; - Having a primary connection with your audience - Personalisation of information received - Generate Revenue through, having a fee to download or in-app purchases. However, even though there are positives there are also negatives; - The cost of making the app - An app takes time to develop especially when it must be made for Android and IOS. - Do not receive 100% of the profit. The App store takes 30% if anything is paid using Apple iTunes as payment. - The app is never complete, it is always going to be updated. - Only can access through internet If I was to make this app myself, I would have to learn the basics of what is needed and complete dedication, because as it will be a new program for me to be learning. To create the application, I would need to set-up servers, databases, and APIs. Even though it seems as if this product is stand alone, I would like to sell it to other companies and other TV networks in order for me to maximise profit, and recognition. Not only would it work for my concept, but it would be easier for consumers to have one app with all the content they need rather than multiple apps with the same content. To promote an app like this I would have to think about marketing strategies such as, plug advertising – advertising through the show as well as celebrity endorsements – seeing that today’s society relies on the information which is passed to them from people they see as their role models.

Digital Art

Idea – Virtual Reality meets Augmented Reality Virtual Reality is on the rise and becoming increasingly popular in society. It focuses on making things seem real when they are not, they are also known for allowing us to escape our reality and to enter a digital one. What if there was a way to blur the lines between Virtual Reality and the real world?  My product idea is to create a game of which consumers can be a part of their favourite film or TV franchise. For example, lets focus on ‘Stranger Things’, how great would it be to be able to experience the ‘Upside Down’ by putting on a headset and being able to divulge in a world that seems real, but is not. This virtual reality game can be accessed three ways; 1. An event in your local city  2. Online  3. Disc release for console (PlayStation or Xbox) By attending an event you will be able to move around, run, jump and skip -if needed to. However, if you were to just play online and/or using your console you would have to use e

Audiences and Consumption

In this evaluation, I will be analysing the works of Long and Wall (2012) and Stokes and Maltby (1999). Audience and consumption is developed around the ideology of consumption and the way we consume and media and its meanings. Media plays a crucial part in lives daily, whether we notice or not. The key themes that were in both chapters were the conjunction between sub cultures and how they are created through media and how the media then portrays it. This however has its downfalls too. The creation of subcultures places pressure on the individuals. Not only does it place pressure on the audience but it also goes against ethics. Is it ethical to be putting an image of something that we know isn’t achievable and making people believe that it is? Audience consumption affects the online community, having online communities makes people believe that they have a sense of identity, but why do they feel as if they don’t have an identity? Long and Wall suggested that discussion forums, ne

Discourse and Analysis

Discourse analysis has been defined ‘as a close examination of text, including visual imagery and sound as well as spoken of written language.’ Discourse analysis is a developing method which stemmed from the scrutinises of mediums.  I will be using the works of Smith and Allan (2004) and Smoodin (1994) to understand and come to terms with what discourse analysis is and how it is used every day. Discourse analysis is almost like a gateway into interpretation and assessing the underlying message that was set from the media owners. It is almost correlates with reasons as to why regulations have been put into place. Smoodin’s work is primarily about the work of Disney, however what is interesting about the disclosure of Disney, is how the ideas and perceptions came across and the ways of which they did so. They used worldwide problems to promote certain aspects of their business venture and to certain audiences. Alongside this, Smith and Bell believed that there are a variable amount
