Idea – Virtual Reality meets Augmented Reality
Virtual Reality is on the rise and becoming increasingly popular in society. It focuses on making things seem real when they are not, they are also known for allowing us to escape our reality and to enter a digital one. What if there was a way to blur the lines between Virtual Reality and the real world?
My product idea is to create a game of which consumers can be a part of their favourite film or TV franchise. For example, lets focus on ‘Stranger Things’, how great would it be to be able to experience the ‘Upside Down’ by putting on a headset and being able to divulge in a world that seems real, but is not. This virtual reality game can be accessed three ways;
1. An event in your local city
2. Online
3. Disc release for console (PlayStation or Xbox)
By attending an event you will be able to move around, run, jump and skip -if needed to. However, if you were to just play online and/or using your console you would have to use either a control pad or your keyboard to navigate. What really is going to sell this franchise is the exclusivity of an event that is constantly going to be changing every year with different TV shows and films, therefore making it a once in a lifetime experience.
Is there a gap in the market for this product? Yes, yes there is. Often as consumers we find ourselves wanting to know how things are made and what it is like to be a character rather than to watch them. To incorporate this idea, I would have to learn the fundamentals of creating a game and in doing so I would have to learn coding familiarise myself with gaming software.
When developing the app, I would have to code using Unreal. Unreal focuses on console based games but also has strong features of 3D gaming and comes with more of a reputable base. There are courses online that will teach me all I need to know about creating a game like this, therefore this idea is achievable and affordable.
The audience for this game is open to anyone who is a fan of a show or to people that are generally interested in Virtual Reality. However, the audience is going to expand, because I would like to go into partnership with Oculus Rift to create high quality games and drift into a market that is already existing. Due to the partnership, marketing this product would be easier. However, I came up with the idea that majority of the advertising could be online using outlets such as YouTube. There are gamers on their that play games and give viewers their views and advice therefore there is a market route of which I can dip into whether it be from sponsorship or general advertising.
